The Miami Dolphins got a wide receiver at a free agency, but it wasn’t exactly one of the big names in the market.
The Dolphins continued their pattern of signing more modest complementary deals in that position when they agreed to a deal with wide receiver Robert Foster, former Buffalo Bills and Washington Football Team.
Foster played four games for Washington last season after being released from the Green Bay Packers training team and picked up just two passes.
Foster’s only significant season in the NFL was his debut year in 2018, when he landed 27 passes for the Buffalo Bills, which he had joined as a rookie free agent.
Prior to that, Foster played at the University of Alabama, where he was a teammate with Tua Tagovailoa during the first year of the Dolphins quarterback in college.
At 6-2, 196 pounds, Foster is a good-sized wide receiver and he has a lot of speed, but he just wasn’t able to win a niche in the NFL.
Foster joins a wide receiver group that includes DeVante Parker, Preston Williams, Jakeem Grant, Kirk Merritt, Lynn Bowden Jr. and the 2020 cancellation options Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns.
Here is a quick scouting report by Chris Russell from SI Washington Football: “Foster has great speed and has contributed from time to time, but has never been able to really get into the stream. He has some experience and ability to escape his time. in Buffalo, but has been striving to find a consistent role. It can help with special teams. “
VAN NOY BACK
Linebacker Kyle Van Noy became the second Dolphins player on Wednesday to return to the New England Patriots after a year in Miami.
Van Noy announced the change on Twitter late on Wednesday.
Van Noy put together a 33-second music video with the words “The next chapter” and whispered to the camera at the end: “Pats Nation, I’m back. Come on.”
The contract is for two years and could be worth up to $ 13.2 million to Van Noy, according to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo. Van Noy earned just over $ 15 million in a year in Miami, according to overthecap.com.
It was a week ago that Van Noy was officially launched by the Dolphins just a year on a four-year contract, a change that had been reported a week earlier.
The Dolphins’ decision to leave Van Noy after just a year had more to do than any other financial consideration, after they gave him a $ 51 million contract for four years.
In his only season in Miami, Van Noy had a solid season, starting 13 of the 14 games he played and ending with 69 tackles, six sacks, a career record of 10 tackles per defeat, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
OFFICIAL MOVEMENTS
The arrival of the league year at 4:00 pm Eastern time meant the official roster and designations of free agents around the NFL.
This means that it became official that the Dolphins did not extend purchase offers to their three restricted free agents – WR Isaiah Ford, T Adam Pankey and QB Jake Rudock.
At about the same time, the list became official, the Dolphins officially announced that they had signed again with Pankey, but Ford and Rudock became unrestricted free agents and free to sign with any team.
THOSE WHO HAVE GONE
Wednesday was a difficult day for fans who expected to see the Dolphins make some high-profile acquisitions.
Center Rodney Hudson, who had asked to be released by the Raiders, was instead switched to Arizona to choose the draft. Wide receiver Curtis Samuel agreed to the terms with Washington. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders agreed to Buffalo’s terms. Linebacker Denzel Perryman agreed to Carolina’s terms. Pass rusher Haason Reddick agreed to Carolina’s terms.
Many high-level free agents remain, notably in the wide receiver, where Kenny Golladay and JuJu Smith-Schuster remained without a contract until Wednesday night.
