During an appearance at NBC’s Today on Monday, Dolly Parton said she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom twice differently from former President Trump. The country music icon said she had to refuse.
“I received the Freedom Award offer from the Trump administration. I couldn’t accept it because my husband was sick and then I was asked about it again and I wasn’t going to travel because of Covid, ”she said in response to a question about how former President Obama, regretting that he never came. Parton with the prize during his two terms, was going to suggest the tribute to President Biden.
But Parton says he is not sure whether he would accept the Medal of Freedom, the greatest civilian tribute at all.
“Now I feel that if I accept it, I will be doing politics, so I’m not sure,” she said. “I don’t work for these awards, but I’m not sure I deserve it. But it’s a good compliment for people to think that I deserve it. “
Elsewhere, Parton’s iconic training anthem “9 to 5” is set to make an appearance in a Super Bowl ad for the company creating its own SquareSpace website. Renamed and re-recorded as “5 to 9,” the new letter refers to parallel works after hours.
“It’s time to work / the only way to make a living / it will change your life / do something that makes sense” Parton sings about a montage of dancing office workers. (The country singer appears on the cover of a magazine in the clip.)
“Well, I work 365 [days a year]. I am always working from 5 to 9, from 9 to 5. I work all hours of the night and day, ”Parton told AP. “Whatever you need to do, you have to do it, how many hours it takes.”
