Dolly Parton recalls the poignant story of how her father used to secretly clean his hometown statue

Dolly Parton has just shared a healthy father and daughter story that is sure to warm the hearts of fans.

The nine Grammy-winning artist recently opened about her creation on the Apple Fitness + “Time to Walk” experience, which debuted on Monday. In the episode “Time to Walk”, Parton shares songs and stories to accompany listeners on their walks in Apple’s latest effort to encourage physical activity among its users.

One particular story the singer told was a story of how her father, Robert Parton, responded to the news of a statue being erected in honor of his famous daughter – and what he did in secret.

“I remember being so proud of that statue … I thought, ‘A statue of me in the courtyard? It is usually reserved for presidents and people who have done really good things like this, ”” noted Parton, according to People magazine.

She continued, “So I went home and said, ‘Daddy, did you know, they are putting a statue of me … in court?’ Dad said, “Well, yes, I heard about that.” He said, “Now, for your fans out there, you can be something of an idol. But for those pigeons, you are nothing but another outdoor toilet.” “

Parton later revealed that his father would clean the statue at night with “a bucket of soapy water on the back of his truck” – without anyone’s knowledge.

“It touched me a lot,” Parton recalled. “I loved my father and wanted him to be proud of himself, just as I was proud of him.”

During the episode, Parton noted that she felt that ” [her] work ethic [her] father “, who was a sharecropper who planted tobacco to support his family in difficult times.

The “Here You Come Again” singer recently celebrated her 75th birthday last Tuesday, but was met with tragedy two days later with the death of her brother, Randy Parton.

News of Randy’s passing comes just a few years after the death of his other brother, Floyd Estel Parton, in 2018.
