Country singer Dolly Parton joked about receiving her Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday at Vanderbilt Health, Tennessee, alluding to the fact that she helped finance Modern vaccination.
Parton, 75, posted a photo of herself receiving the vaccine on her social networks and captioned: “Dolly receives a dose of her own medicine”. Last year, Parton announced that he donated $ 1 million to Vanderbilt University to help find a cure for coronavirus.
The singer also posted a video asking her followers to get the vaccine if they were eligible and said she was “old” and “smart” enough to receive the vaccine. Parton also played with the words of his famous ballad “Jolene” for the occasion.
“Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine,” sang Parton. “I’m begging you, please don’t hesitate.”
Parton encouraged people to “go there and try” before showing his own vaccination, administered by his friend Dr. Naji Abumrad. She told the fans that it didn’t hurt.
“I am so happy that you are here and that you are sending a great message,” said Abumrad.
Parton mentioned Abumrad in his post last year, announcing his donation. His participation in the Modern vaccine research was revealed in a preliminary report that credited the “Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund” in November.
“I’m very happy that anything I do can help someone else, and when I donated the money to the COVID fund, I just wanted it to do good,” Parton told NBC’s “TODAY” program in November. “Evidently, it is. Let’s just hope that we find a real cure soon. “
The Food and Drug Administration authorized Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use in December, the second vaccine to receive special authorization. It appears that Parton received his first dose on Tuesday and will need to receive his second dose in about four weeks, following the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Parton told the Associated Press last month that while she was eligible to receive the vaccine, she wanted to wait so that it didn’t look like she received preferential treatment.
“I don’t want it to look like I’m skipping the line just because I donated money,” said Parton. “I’m really funny about that.”
