Does the Mandalorian Fan Theory know who saved baby Grogu from Order 66?

A new fan theory may reveal who was able to save Grogu from Order 66. The Mandalorian the second season is over and there are still a lot of questions around the little boy, who Star Wars fans expect it to be explored in the future. However, the biggest question at the moment seems to revolve around how Grogu left the Jedi Temple in Coruscant during Order 66. There are SPOILERS for The Mandalorian season 2 below, so read ahead at your own risk.

Inside The Mandalorian end of season 2, fans were treated to the return of two iconic Star Wars characters: Luke Skywalker and R2-D2. Luke came to rescue Grogu from Din Djarin and give him the proper Jedi training, although the little boy was a little apprehensive to go with his new master for a moment. Everything changed when he saw the R2-D2 appear. Grogu immediately got excited and the astromechanical android was extremely excited to see him. Did R2-D2 save Grogu from Order 66?

It seems that the two had an immediate bond when they met at the conclusion of the The Mandalorian season 2. R2-D2 could very well have been the one to save Baby Grogu, although it is unclear exactly how the android could have done it. R2 left the ship when Anakin invaded the steps of the Jedi Temple, so it is possible that he could have kept a stowaway with him during this time, possibly saving a life. It is possible that R2 knew how powerful Grogu really was, which made him a priority.

Whereas Order 66 takes place about 30 years before The Mandalorian, it can be assumed that Grogu was much smaller then than it is now. It is possible that it would fit in the palm of your hand or on the R2-D2 to keep you safe. With all that said, Grogu is still a kid at this point and may have seen all the lights on the android and was excited, as most kids are when they see the R2-D2 for the first time. Even adults go crazy with the android, so it could throw that whole theory out the window.

As for how excited R2-D2 was to see Grogu, this may well be because of his resemblance to Yoda. For now, it is not clear why the two were so excited to see each other, but it may well be that they met 30 years ago. Hopefully, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni plan to give us some answers in the near future. Maybe the duo will win their own series, as Disney + seems to be giving almost everything Star Wars-related to a new show. This theory originated from TikTok user Darth Jar Jar.
