Does 1984 Wonder Woman have a problem with Steve Trevor?

This is a frustrating element about Wonder Woman 1984. Although we imagine that she lived an interesting life away from Steve between the 1920s and 1980s, and has moved on, there is a part of Diana’s arch that looks like we haven’t moved on a lifetime. I believe this happens involuntarily when filmmakers configure the specific story of Wonder Woman 1984 and Diana’s desire specifically. But the problem remains when Chris Pine’s character enters the fold and becomes a character responsible for some attenuated action sequences with the hero, who seems to be losing his powers with each passing day with him. Throughout the film, Diana is realizing that she cannot have both. She can’t really be who she needs to be with Steve Trevor by her side. For both Wonder Woman and WW84, before she can reach a surprising conclusion with Diana kicking her ass on her own, she has to have a key moment with Steve that motivates her emotionally to finish the job.
