Testing operations at the stadium will end on Monday, the city said. The site will be converted to vaccination by the end of the week, reaching the expectation of 12,000 vaccinations a day when it is fully operational.
“Since the beginning of this pandemic, Dodger Stadium has been the foundation of our testing infrastructure, a vital part of our effort to track the spread of COVID-19, try to anticipate outbreaks and save lives,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti . “Vaccines are the safest way to defeat this virus and chart a path to recovery, so the city, the county and our entire team are putting our best resources into the field to vaccinate Angelenos as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible.”
City officials have recognized that closing the site will reduce the overall testing capacity available in the region – but triples the vaccine’s distribution. They noted that the city continues to operate eight permanent and six mobile sites, and testing will be expanded at some of the existing sites.
The city opened Dodger Stadium for the COVID-19 test in May 2020, and since then, more than 1 million tests have been administered there.
