The automaker is launching a new two-factor authentication system for its 6.4-liter Challenger and Charger and 6.2-liter V8 supercharged infotainment system screen.

The idea is to avoid the increasing number of thefts being carried out by falsifying remote controls with interception devices that steal their codes, or when the owners simply leave them in or near their cars.

The Dodge Hellcat models already come with two remote controls, including a black one that limits power to 500 hp.

Challengers and high-powered chargers are common targets for thieves. Some were even stolen straight from the factory parking lot.

Cars can still be started and driven without second-level safety inserted, but the 675 rpm restriction limits them to 2.8 hp and 22 lb-ft of torque, which is a little bit less than 485-807 hp and 475-707 lb-ft the engines are capable.

The security system will begin to be implemented on new models before July and current car owners through the 2015 model year can take them to a dealership for a free upgrade.
