Do you think this secret menu of Galaxy Labs in the Samsung Gallery is secret enough?

The latest version of the Samsung Gallery app for Android comes with a somewhat secretive Galaxy Labs menu listing some fun features. And as you may have guessed, Samsung’s developers didn’t do very well in avoiding detection. But it is doubtful how discreet this experimental addition was made to be in the first place. Because, it seems, it is available in all regular non-beta versions of the Samsung Gallery from Android 10 onwards. That is, starting with One UI 2.5.

While it is possible that someone at Samsung merged the wrong code repository branch, this inclusion is probably very intentional. And assuming you’ve had a Galaxy device released in the past three or more years, you should be able to check it out for yourself.

How do I enable the latest experimental features in the Samsung Gallery?

To do this, launch the Stock Gallery app on your smartphone or tablet, open your bottom toolbar by tapping the hamburger menu and go to settings. Scroll to the end and touch the penultimate section that says About the Gallery.

This is where you do most of the hack by repeatedly tapping the version number below the Gallery header. This one:

A system-wide prompt will help to count the seconds until the action is taken. Go back to the previous screen and you will see a new menu item, Gallery Labs, at the bottom of the application settings. We’ll be taking an in-depth look at this list of features soon, but check it out for yourself in the meantime. There are a lot of cool mobile photography ideas hidden there, so hopefully at least some of them will make it to the official launch.
