The life of the Hip Hop icon DMX is in danger after the rapper suffered an overdose of drugs on Friday night.
According to TMZ, sources close to the “What’s My Name” artist claim that the OD took place at 11pm. Sources added that the overdose triggered a heart attack.
DMX, 50, is currently in the intensive care unit of a White Plains hospital, where he is reportedly exhibiting “some brain activity”. Another source told TMZ that the artist is currently in a “vegetative state” and doctors have warned that he may not survive.
Ruff Ryders MC has long struggled with drug addiction, and went into rehab in October 2019.
The rapper says his addiction problems started when he was taken to smoke crack at 14 – by his mentor.
“I was at Yonkers. This guy, ‘Ready Ron,’ he was like an older brother to me, ”DMX told hip-hop star Talib Kweli on his podcast“ People’s Party ”.
“He rapped and I beatboxed,” said DMX. “I loved this guy as an older brother.”
One night after the duo “did a robbery one night … it was his birthday and we went back and shared the money. I said, ‘Here you go, get something nice for your birthday.’ So he came back with a ball rolled, and I’m counting the money, he passed[ed] the blunt. “
Containing his tears, he continued: “I hit the target and … I was no longer focused on money. I never felt like that, it just pissed me off. Later, I found out that he mixed rhombus with crack. Why would you do that to a child? He knew that I admired him. Why would you do that to someone who admires you? A monster was born. I wouldn’t do that to my worst enemy. Especially for someone you are supposed to love. “
