Stone will replace Glenn Close, who played Cruella de Vil in the 1996 live-action adaptation of the Disney film and its sequel. Stone will star alongside Emma Thompson as the Baroness, the head of a prestigious London fashion house. Also starring are Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham and Mark Strong. Craig Gillespie is directing Cruella. His latest feature film, I, Tonya, received several Oscar nominations in 2018.

Rumors emerged at the end of last year that Cruella could hit Disney +, as the state of the film industry continues to change. At the moment, the film is still on May 28, while Disney decides its next move. Disney is likely to be waiting at least a few more weeks to make a decision on the film’s release, but with the trailer coming to the internet tomorrow, it looks like the studio is set for its May release date, regardless of whether that means or not a Disney + release.
With Raya and the Last Dragon premiering in March through the streamer’s Premier Access platform, the studio may be waiting to see the film’s performance before making a final decision. Either way, Disney probably hopes that a trailer will spark interest.
