Disneyland to serve as COVID-19 vaccine super site in Orange County – NBC Los Angeles

The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim was established as the first super distribution point (POD) for COVID-19 vaccines in Orange County and will open later this week, officials announced on Monday.

“Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has prepared to host the county’s first Super POD location – performing a monumental task in our vaccination distribution process,” said Acting President Andrew Do, First District, in a county statement announcing the website. “We really appreciate the support of the Orange County Fire Authority, our cities and our residents as we continue to implement COVID-19 vaccines across the county.”

The site will have the capacity to vaccinate thousands of residents daily, according to the municipality.

“It is important to vaccinate as many people as possible against COVID-19 and we need space to do that,” Supervisor Donald P. Wagner, Third District, said in a county statement. “I thank the Disneyland Resort and the city of Anaheim for intensifying the shared effort to protect OC residents from the virus.”

The Disneyland website is expected to be operational later this week, corresponding to a similar schedule to that of Los Angeles, changing Dodger Stadium from a super test site COVID-19 to a super vaccination site.

The site will still follow state guidelines and will only provide vaccines to people eligible for vaccination. Currently, the state only allows people who are in “Phase 1a” to receive vaccines, with the group recently expanded to include people aged 75 and over, according to the municipality’s statement.

Only people with commitments who fall into Phase 1a will receive vaccines at the Anaheim resort, the county said.

“The coronavirus brought a public health crisis and economic devastation,” said Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu in the county statement. “With this super site, we will start to overcome both. Each vaccination done in Anaheim will help save lives and accelerate the reopening and recovery of our city. “
