There were long lines of people waiting to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, but some county residents who tried to get vaccinated reported having trouble getting an appointment through the Othena registration app.
County leaders say their registration application was overloaded. According to the Orange County Health Agency, about 10,000 people registered overnight to schedule an appointment.

Some who had trouble scheduling an appointment even received a message stating that they could no longer register. The municipality says it is working to resolve the gaps and more registration slots will be opened when the municipality receives more vaccines.
Residents can find more information on how to get an appointment on the Othena website and can download the app from the App Store.
The county is asking those without an appointment to not come to the Super POD site because it would overburden the system and make the distribution of the vaccine more challenging. Health leaders warn that consultations are necessary for everything to go well.
Disneyland is the first of five Super POD locations in Orange County, with the capacity to vaccinate thousands of people every day. The other sites will be announced as soon as their agreements are finalized.
County health officials on Tuesday opened access to vaccines for residents age 65 and older, and the state is now following in the county’s footsteps.
So far, Orange County has received more than 170,000 vaccines, according to OCHA’s director, Dr. Clayton Chau. To receive more vaccines, Chau said it is critical for the county to prove to the state that Super PODS like the Disneyland website are successful and that people want the vaccine.
