Disney + has exceeded 100 million global subscribers.

On Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Chapek revealed that the streaming service has surpassed the benchmark in just 16 months since its launch.

“The huge success of Disney +, which has already exceeded 100 million subscribers, inspired us to be even more ambitious and to significantly increase our investment in developing high quality content,” Chapek said in a statement.

Disney’s streaming service has launched a series of popular TV series since its launch, including two seasons of “The Mandalorian” and its first Marvel series “WandaVision”. Both were the most viewed content, according to Nielsen reports, and generated subscriptions to the service.

Disney has turned its Disney + service into a destination for family favorites and the only place where Marvel and Star Wars fans can view content that directly connects to successful theater features.

The company reached that milestone a few months after Disney told investors that it planned to invest more in streaming. In October, the company began to restructure its media and entertainment divisions to focus more on Disney +.

At that time, Disney shared plans for about 100 film and television projects, about 80% of which should go directly to Disney +. This includes nearly a dozen Marvel series and more than 10 Star Wars shows.

Disney + exceeded the company’s initial subscriber target of 60 million to 90 million by 2024 in November, forcing it to make a new forecast. The company expects Disney + to have 230 to 260 million subscribers by 2024.

The streaming service has seen a rapid growth in subscribers since its launch in November 2019. On the first day, the company had 10 million subscribers and, by the end of the first quarter, the service had secured 26.5 million subscribers.
