Disney California Adventure Park to reopen for limited experience next month

Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock announced the plan on Monday in a letter to workers sent in honor of California Adventure’s 20th anniversary.

Disney (DIS) you still don’t have permission from the state to fully reopen all the park’s attractions, so the event will not be like a typical theme park visit. Instead, the park will offer visitors food and beverages, merchandise and “carefully crafted entertainment experiences,” said Potrock in the letter, which was assessed by CNN Business.
With this initiative – as well as the recent restart of outdoor dining at Downtown Disney after the California home stay application was suspended last month – about 1,000 Disney cast members will be able to return to work. Tens of thousands of company workers have been laid off or fired since last year because of the prolonged closure.

“With limited capacity and improved health and safety measures, visitors will once again enter a magical Disney environment – an environment that will provide the memorable and fun experiences that our guests desire,” said Potrock.

Ticket events are expected to take place several days a week, starting in mid-March.

Disney increases the number of planned layoffs to 32,000 employees
The limited reopening points to the potential start of a recovery for Disney’s theme park operations in California after the pandemic hit the company’s bottom line.
In November, Disney informed the Securities and Exchange Commission of its plans to lay off 32,000 employees by the end of March.
Disney closed all 12 of its theme parks around the world last spring with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. While some of its resorts, such as Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, have reopened, California’s parks remain closed due to state health and safety protocols. The Anaheim, California resort is the oldest Disney location, with Disneyland opening in 1955 (California Adventure Park opened in 2001).
Disneyland unions pressured California Governor Gavin Newsom to reopen the parks, which is set to happen in limited capacity only when Orange County reaches a lower level of Covid-19 cases. A group of California state assembly members has also proposed a bill aimed at speeding up the reopening of Disneyland and other major state theme parks.

Potrock called the California Adventure Park’s limited reopening “a very special opportunity … that meets our top priorities: getting more cast members back to work and interacting with our guests in different and relevant ways.”

Disney shares closed at $ 190 a share, up about 5% on Monday.
