Carano says she didn’t know she was being fired by Lucasfilm until she read about it on social media.
Gina Carano continues to talk about her resignation from “The Mandalorian”, this time in statements given to former New York Times writer Bari Weiss (via the Weiss Substack page). Lucasfilm announced on February 10 that he was severing ties with the actress because of his story of controversial social media posts, which culminated last week in an Instagram post comparing the current U.S. political climate with Nazi Germany. In a conversation with Weiss, Carano revealed that he had no warning about his resignation and found on social media that his relationship with Lucasfilm had ended.
The #FireGinaCarano movement on Twitter went viral last year after Carano appeared to mock transgender pronouns, putting “Beep / bop / boop” in his profile bio. Carano said Lucasfilm pressured her to issue a written company apology on the matter, but she declined.
“At the beginning of last year, before the release of ‘The Mandalorian’, they wanted me to use their exact words for an apology about the use of pronouns,” said Carano. “I refused and made a statement in my own words. I made it clear that I didn’t want to make fun of the transgender community and was just drawing attention to the abuse of the mafia by forcing people to put pronouns in their biographies. “
According to Carano, Lucasfilm’s reaction to her not using an apology excluded her from all the press and promotion of the 2nd season of “The Mandalorian”.
“It was heartbreaking, but I didn’t want to take the hard work out of everyone who worked on the project, so I said ok,” added Carano. “This was the last time I was contacted about any kind of public statement or apology from Lucasfilm. I found out on social media, like everyone else, that I was fired ”.
Lucasfilm announced Carano’s resignation, calling his social media posts “abominable and unacceptable” because they “disparaged people based on their cultural and religious identities”. After his resignation, a THR report broke the news that Lucasfilm had canceled private plans last year to announce Carano as the star of a secondary series of “Mandalorian” amid his controversy on social media (probably “Rangers of the New Republic “).
With the “Star Wars” universe now behind, Carano is preparing to star and produce a new film for the conservative website The Daily Wire. Carano’s initial statement about his resignation, released last week, said: “I am sending a direct message of hope to everyone who lives in fear of being canceled by the totalitarian crowd. I just started using my voice, which is now more free than ever, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They cannot cancel us if we don’t allow it. “
