Disintegration developer V1 Interactive closes

Nine months after the studio released its debut game, Disintegration, developer V1 Interactive is wrapping up. The studio announced its closure on Monday via Twitter, thanking the V1 Interactive team and their fans.

On its website, V1 Interactive described itself as a small company and featured a team photo with 27 members.

V1 Interactive was founded by Marcus Lehto and was officially unveiled in 2016, after closing a deal with Take-Two Interactive’s independent Private Division label. Lehto was a veteran of Bungie, developer of Halo and Destiny, where he served as art director in the first Halo games and creative director in Halo: Reach. At V1 Interactive, he was president and creative director.

In the summer of 2019, V1 Interactive announced its first game, Distintegration, a science fiction first-person shooter with real-time strategy elements. Distintegration it boasted a full-story single player campaign and a “huge” multiplayer component. It was released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in June 2020 with mixed response. In our practical impressions of the game, we said: “Disintegration it presents some interesting ideas, but it never learns how to get out of its own way long enough to let me enjoy them. “

A few months later, V1 Interactive announced that Distintegrationthe multiplayer mode would be taken offline.

“Although our player base showed interest in the single player campaign, the game unfortunately had a difficult time building a significant audience, necessary for an attractive multiplayer experience,” said the developer. “After weighing the options, we made the collective decision to end multiplayer support.”

Disintegration went offline in November 2020.

On Twitter, the studio said in its closing announcement:

We are sad to inform you that V1 Interactive is officially closing.

We want to thank all the talents of V1, past and present, that have helped to make the last 5 years wonderful.

And a sincere thanks to the incredible community that supported us.
