After the announcement of Diablo II Resurrected last week, a new comparison video appeared, comparing the upcoming remake with the original 2000 game.
Courtesy of YouTube channel ‘Candyland’, this video compares the footage from the recently released BlizzCon 2021 game trailer from Blizzard with the same scenes from the original Diablo II (with the Lord of Destruction expansion).
We already think that the first game footage released by Blizzard looks very good and, based on this comparison, it looks like the development team did a good job of improving the game’s visuals on the new 3D graphics engine with new sprites, maintaining the overall style art from the original game.
Diablo II: resurrected take the classic sprite-based 2D and bring it to the present with fully 3D physics-based rendering, dynamic lighting, renewed animations and spell effects – all incredibly delivered in up to 4K resolution.† All 27 minutes of the game’s classic cinematics, narrating the journey of the mysterious Dark Wanderer, are being remade – shot by plan – from scratch. The nightmarish sounds of Sanctuary and its memorable soundtrack have also been invigorated to support Dolby 7.1 surround sound. By raising the game’s audio and visual capabilities, Diablo II: resurrected will show the depth of gameplay and striking designs that continue to entertain players around the world today.
“Diablo II was a critical game for Blizzard and millions of players worldwide. With Diablo II: Resurrected, we are excited to bring this classic back to the PC and also to consoles – with cross-progression on compatible platforms – so that players can relive their memories or experience the timeless gameplay of Diablo II for the first time, on their platform of choice, ”said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment, about the announcement of Diablo II Resurrected last week. “With the new high-resolution audio and video in Diablo II: Resurrected, the game is as fun and engaging today as it was twenty years ago.”
Diablo II Resurrected is scheduled for release later this year on PC, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Interested parties can sign up for the game’s technical alpha on PC via Diablo2.com.
