Blizzard says Diablo 2 Resurrected will make use of PS5 DualSense features, such as tactile feedback.
As UnGeek reports, Blizzard’s Robert Gallerani and Maxine Virtue detailed the studio’s plans for support for Diablo 2 Resurrected DualSense during a media roundtable at BlizzCon 2021. Although the developers have not delved into the details, Gallerani has almost confirmed tactile feedback for the next Diablo 2 remaster.
“We are still working on how we want to use [the DualSense], but the tactile feedback on the controller is really exciting, so we want to make sure you take advantage of that, “said Gallerani.
DualSense’s tactile feedback feature is essentially an advanced noise package designed to increase immersion, replicating the feel and effects of different surfaces and items. For example, walking through the sand in a game should seem brave, while firing shotguns should send widely spaced wrists to your hands.
Gallerani also detailed some of the ways in which Diablo 2 Resurrected is tuned for control support more generally, confirming that the remaster will add a cursor function for gamepads.
“In the original game, the Sorceress teleport works by clicking wherever you want. Wherever you click, it is where you are teleporting to. When you are using the controller, you do not have a cursor, so when you teleport with the Sorceress , we have a standard distance for teleportation – some of the moves that we do that, for example, a Necromancer’s Blood Golem will always appear wherever you want, while for a few moves we allow you to hold down a button, and you’ll get a cursor. “
Diablo 2 Resurrected is a 4K remastering of the 2000 Blizzard classic with new 3D models, redone kinematics and updated audio. It is scheduled to be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch in 2021.
