Reportedly, THPS remake developer Vicarious Visions is now working on a remake for Diablo II in his new role at Blizzard Entertainment.
Allegedly, Tony Hawk professional skater The remake developer Vicarious Visions is directing the production of a remake for the Blizzard Entertainment classic Diablo II. This news comes in the wake of Blizzard’s absorption of Vicarious, which has spent the past 15 years and changed serving as a subsidiary of Activision.
Vicarious’ new role as Blizzard’s support team allows it to remain in Albany, New York. The studio has undergone some changes with regard to its leadership, however. Studio boss Jen Oneal received a notable promotion, taking a spot on Blizzard’s own leadership team as executive vice president of development. In his absence, Vicarious’s chief operating officer, Simon Ebejer, assumed the role of head of the studio. A statement from Blizzard noted that the two entities have already collaborated “for a while, “but the details have not yet been made public.

According to a Bloomberg, Blizzard Team 1, the team behind the universally panned Warcraft III: Reforged, led development in Diablo II ‘s remake until last year. Blizzard dissolved Team 1, reassigning some of its members to other parts of the company and others have been fired over time. As a result, responsibilities for Diablo II’s revival (also known as Diablo II: resurrected) were delivered to Team 3, the team currently connected Diablo IV. Sources familiar with Blizzard’s operations said Bloomberg that a group within Vicarious has helped with Diablo II since last year.
Whether or not such a project is the best use of Vicarious Vision’s talents and resources remains to be seen. Many fans expressed their disappointment when news that the team had been incorporated into Blizzard was aired. Most are concerned that Vicarious will suffer the fate of Activision’s Raven Software, which, before last year Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, had not developed his own project since 2010, often overlooked Singularity.
The publisher acquired Vicarious in 2005, and has been very busy ever since. The New York-based studio oversaw the development of many notable Activision franchises, including companies like Skylanders. Recent successes have pushed Vicarious into the stratosphere, thanks in large part to his highly acclaimed work in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Last year, developers revived another beloved 90s franchise with Tony Hawk professional skater 1 + 2, which became the fastest selling entry in the series’s history. Luckily, Diablo 2The company’s own remake treatment will be just as good.
