DHEC reports almost 1,000 cases of viruses in SC schools this week | Coronavirus

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control confirmed 990 cases of coronavirus in state schools from December 14 to 20, according to the state agency’s report on Tuesday.

For the second consecutive week, the DHEC report marks the highest school virus count to date.

Of the 990 COVID-19 cases, 771 of them are students and 219 are employees. DHEC reports include only people who attended school during the virus infection period.

DHEC confirmed more cases in several public, private and charter schools in Aiken County.

Two private schools in Aiken County have been added to the DHEC list since Friday. DHEC reports fewer than five cases of students in the last 30 days at Escola Católica Santa Maria Auxiliadora, as well as cases of students and staff at Escola Cristã Batista South Aiken.

These are the COVID-19 numbers for the last 30 days in public, private and charter schools in Aiken County, according to DHEC:

  2. Aiken High (six students, <5 employees). Cumulative: 23 students, six employees.
  3. Intermediate Aiken (<5 employees)
  4. Belvedere Elementary (<5 employees). Cumulative: five employees.
  5. Clearwater Elementary (<5 employees).
  6. Cyril B. Busbee Elementary (<5 students).
  7. First day of the Baptist week, located in North Augusta (<5 students).
  8. First Presbyterian preschool (<5 students).
  9. Fox Creek High (five students, <5 employees). Cumulative: eight students.
  10. East Aiken School of Arts (<5 students).
  11. Gloverville Elementary (<5 employees).
  12. Hammond Hill Elementary (<5 students, <5 employees).
  13. Horse Creek Academy (<5 students). Cumulative: six students.
  14. JD Lever Elementary (<5 students, <5 employees).
  15. Jackson Middle (<5 students, <5 employees).
  16. Jefferson Elementary (<5 employees).
  17. Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle (<5 students, <5 employees). Cumulative: five students.
  18. Leavelle McCampbell Middle (<5 students, <5 employees).
  19. MB Kennedy Middle (<5 students, <5 employees).
  20. Midland Valley High (<5 employees). Cumulative: six students.
  21. Millbrook Elementary (<5 students, <5 employees).

  29. Schofield Middle (<5 students, <5 employees). Cumulative: six students.

The school district of Aiken County reports 83 cases of coronavirus, 755 quarantines

In Edgefield County, three public schools and one private school have reported cases in the past 30 days.

Merriwether Middle and the Wardlaw Academy private school reported fewer than five student cases, and Merriwether Elementary reported five. Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle reported less than five employee cases.

In Barnwell County, six public schools and one private school reported cases in the past 30 days. DHEC reports fewer than five cases of students at Barnwell Primary, Moriah Christian Academy, Williston-Elko Middle, Kelly Edwards Elementary and Barnwell High. Guinyard-Butler Middle reported fewer than five cases of employees, and Barnwell Elementary reported less than five cases of employees and students.
