DHEC confirms 46 other COVID-19 cases in schools in South Carolina | Education

The Department of Health and Environmental Control of SC confirmed 46 other cases of COVID-19 in schools across the state on Tuesday afternoon.

Of the 46 cases added since Friday’s DHEC report, 28 are students and 18 are school employees.

This brings the cumulative total to 5,258 students and 2,154 employees on January 3. This represents 7,412 coronavirus cases in total.

The DHEC figures include only students and staff who physically attended school with the virus during the infectious period. The school report is updated fortnightly on Tuesdays and Fridays.

These are the COVID-19 numbers for the past 30 days in public, private and charter schools in Aiken County, according to DHEC:

  9. Hammond Hill Elementary (<5 students, <5 employees).
  10. Horse Creek Academy (<5 students).
  11. JD Lever Elementary (<5 students).
  12. Jackson Middle (<5 students, <5 employees).
  13. Jefferson Elementary (<5 students, <5 employees).
  14. Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle (<5 students, <5 employees).

In Edgefield County, three public schools, a charter school and a private school have reported cases in the past 30 days, according to DHEC.

Merriwether Elementary reported five cases of students and less than five cases of employees. Bettis Prep Leadership Academy, Wardlaw Academy, Merriwether Middle and Johnston-Trenton-Edgefield Middle reported less than five student cases.

In Barnwell County, six public schools and two private schools have reported cases in the past 30 days, according to SC DHEC.

The Jefferson Davis Academy and Moriah Christian Academy private schools, as well as the Williston-Elko Middle and Kelly Edwards Elementary public schools, reported less than five student cases. Guinyard-Butler Middle reported fewer than five cases of employees.

Barnwell Elementary, Barnwell Primary and Barnwell High reported less than five cases of students and staff.
