A few months after Showtime announced the revival of its hit series Dexter, with Michael C. Hall returning as the title character, the series now has its villain.
Clancy Brown has signed on to play Kurt Caldwell’s regular role in the next series, according to TV Line.
Caldwell is described as the “unofficial mayor” of a small town known as Iron Lake, which conflicts with Hall’s Dexter Morgan.

The character’s description includes more details about Caldwell, including that he ‘made the American dream come true by stopping driving large platforms, just like his father did, namely that he owns several trucks and the local truck stop’.
He is also described as ‘powerful, generous, loved by all’ and a ‘true man of the people’.
Although the citizens of Iron Lake should consider themselves ‘blessed’ if he supports you, ‘but if you upset Kurt or hurt someone he likes, God help you.’

There is no indication yet as to whether Iron Lake will serve as the setting for this new series, although it has been confirmed to be set today, seven years after the end of 2013.
Hall recently opened up the subject of the controversial ending in an interview with The Daily Beast, where he didn’t get round to his thoughts on the ending.
“Let’s be realistic: people found that the program made things very unsatisfactory, and there was always hope that a story would come up that was worth telling,” he said.

Showtime announced Dexter’s revival in mid-October, bringing Hall together with new showrunner Clyde Phillips, who has served as screenwriter and producer on the original series since its inception in 2006.
The ad said production would begin in the revival in early 2021, although it is unclear when filming will actually begin.

Dexter’s original eight-season series debuted in the fall of 2006 and starred Hall as Dexter Morgan, a complicated and conflicted blood spatter with the Miami Police Department who works as a serial killer.
The program became one of the most acclaimed series on television, winning several Emmy (R) and Golden Globe (R) nominations for best television drama, as well as a prestigious Peabody award in 2008, and was twice elected a of the 10 best television shows in the AFI Series.
Brown is leaving a place as a guest star on an episode of The Mandalorian, and he can currently be seen in Promised Young Woman, currently in theaters and debuting on digital platforms on January 15th.
