The New Jersey Devils today announced changes to its Hockey Operations Department and Scouting Team, which is a restructuring of titles to align correctly with the roles and responsibilities of these individuals. The announcement was made by Devils executive vice president / general manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Scott Clemmensen was named the club’s Goal Development Director. Clemmensen will now oversee all goal development together with executive vice president / hockey operations consultant Martin Brodeur. Clemmensen will work with Binghamton goalkeeper coach Brian Eklund and New Jersey goalkeeper coach Dave Rogalski to monitor the organization’s current and potential goalkeepers. In addition, he will work with our current candidates and candidates, while working with our teams of professional and amateur scouts to identify talent. Clemmensen was in action in 191 NHL games of his career with New Jersey, Toronto and Florida, posting a 73-59-24 mark with seven closings and an average of 2.79 goals against. The total of his Devils showed 68 games, with a record of 32-19-6, four shutouts and a 2.60 GAA. After finishing his career in 2015, Clemmensen took on a development role in the organization, serving as a goal development coach.
Kate Madigan was appointed Executive Director, Hockey Management / Operations. Madigan previously served as Assistant, 2017-19 Player / Video Information before becoming Director of Operations Pro Scouting last season. Kate takes on a newly created role that is responsible for managing hockey operations projects for the general manager, which includes reporting on players, free agency, negotiations, analysis, budget and coordination of hockey operations personnel. Previously, Madigan oversaw programming and reporting for the team of professional scouts, while working with coaches, management and video staff throughout the year. Most recently, she orchestrated the logistics for the NHL 2020 Draft and Devils Draft Command Center at the Prudential Center, including communication with construction operations, information technology, medical staff, scouts, management, media relations and the NHL .
Jim Mill previously served as an Amateur and Professional Scout in New Jersey from 2015 to 2019, before becoming the Head of University Scouting last season. Mill will now oversee Devils’ team of professional scouts, which includes Al Coates, Peter Horachek, Claude Noel, Andre Savard, Brian Strait and Nick Vitucci. He will be responsible for all team reporting, scheduling and assignments while compiling information for Fitzgerald and assistant general manager Dan MacKinnon. Prior to New Jersey, Mill served as assistant general manager of the 2009-15 Minnesota Wild. He also served in hockey management roles in the American Hockey League, including as executive vice president of hockey operations before his time with Wild.
