Cyberpunk Developer Keanu Mod Upsets

The developer of “Cyberpunk 2077”, CD Projekt Red, asked players of the title to refrain from getting the image of Keanu Reeves.

One of the few versions of the high-level science fiction video game that has worked correctly (for the most part) is the PC version of the title. Reeves also plays a key role as the character Johnny Silverhand in the game, lending not only his voice, but also his physical resemblance to the character.

Although the player cannot engage in sexual activities with Silverhand, you can with other characters. Recently, fan-made mods have started to appear online, which change some character models and thus allow players to continue with Reeves’ character.

As Reeves seems to be from a real person, rather than a character creation, the developer tells PC Gamer that the rules are a little different and therefore they take a different stance towards other mods:

Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it cannot be harmful to third parties. In the case of model changes, especially those involving explicit situations, it can be perceived as such by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077.

Therefore, when making content for fans, creators must make sure that they have permission from all interested parties (which could be other people besides the CD PROJEKT RED). For the characters we invented for the game, we widely allow you to adjust the game at will and just have fun.

When it comes to models of real people we ask to participate in the game, we ask that you do not use them in any situation that could be considered offensive, if you do not have their explicit permission.

Mods are now common among games, especially the larger AAA titles, where major changes are made to almost every part of a video game. The previous major release of CD Projekt Red, “The Witcher 3”, remains one of the most modified games out there.

However, CD Projekt Red has its own problems to worry about, as it continues to deal with the consequences of the various problems of “Cyberpunk 2077” and is working on updates to try to improve it over time.
