Detroit Term | Covid vaccine locations must include Kroger pharmacies in Michigan; Metro Detroit jobs

Covid vaccines will be offered at Kroger pharmacies in Michigan in the coming months, allowing customers to have injections and shallots in the same location.

The Cincinnati-based supermarket chain is a distribution partner for the state health department for Pfizer and Moderna two-dose vaccines. Vaccination began two weeks ago for health professionals, first responders and residents and employees of elderly community centers.

The eligibility for the next phase will soon extend to members of the public over 75 and “essential frontline workers in critical infrastructure”, followed by anyone “at high risk of serious illness due to Covid-19 infection and some other essential workers whose position impacts life, safety and security during the Covid-19 response, “according to a status update this week.

Kroger is recruiting about 1,000 pharmacy technicians across the country “to support the operations and administration of the Covid-19 vaccine,” says a statement to the media. Places in Clarkston, Sterling Heights, Livonia, Troy, Westland, Milford, Shelby and Macomb Townships, Roseville, Commerce Township, Milford and other Michigan locations are listed here.

The company’s 2,200 pharmacies will help “immunize a large portion of the US population as soon as authorized vaccines become more widely available,” the statement adds.

“Kroger Health is … ready to play an active role in helping to distribute the vaccine in collaboration with public health authorities and community partners,” said Dr. Marc Watkins, medical director at Kroger Health. …

“We are strongly encouraging all customers and associates to receive the vaccine to contain the spread of Covid-19 in our communities and will do everything we can to ensure that they have access as soon as it is available.”

Michigan received 231,075 doses of vaccine until last Tuesday, when the most recent data was published, and 37,660 people were vaccinated. The updated totals are expected on Monday by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, which has a Covid-19 Vaccine Panel.
