Detroit Lions will hire Aaron Glenn dos Santos as defensive coordinator

ALLEN PARK – Dan Campbell has not yet officially accepted the position of Detroit Lions principal coach, and his new team is already coming into focus.

Aaron Glenn will follow Campbell from New Orleans to Detroit and take over as a defensive coordinator, according to the NFL Network. Glenn is a former first-round pick who has played 15 seasons for the Jets, Texans, Cowboys, Jaguars and Saints. He was three times a Pro Bowler and three times an All-Pro in the cornerback.

He started his coaching career as an assistant defense coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2014, before taking over the defense position for the New Orleans Saints in 2016. Campbell also joined this team in 2016 and is now bringing Glenn with him to Detroit.

This probably means that Cory Undlin is unemployed after a season with the Lions. His defense allowed for the most yards and points in the team’s history, although it was a mess long before he got here too, and the injuries didn’t help him either.

It is not yet clear what will happen to offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

New general manager Brad Holmes is expected to meet with reporters for the first time this afternoon and, unless something unforeseen, Campbell will be announced as head coach after his visit to Detroit later in the week.
