Detroit Lions signs CB Quinton Dunbar with 1 year contract

According to his agent, Elite Loyalty Sports, CB Quinton Dunbar agreed to the terms with the Detroit Lions on a one-year contract. Dunbar announced on social networks that he was in Detroit on Monday, a visit that apparently went well.

Retired from Florida in 2015, Dunbar signed with the Washington Football Team as a wide receiver, but quickly switched to cornerback as a rookie. When his rookie contract expired in 2018, he won a new three-year contract worth $ 10.5 million. That season, Dunbar’s debut as a starter started on a promising note, but ended prematurely due to a shin injury.

In 2019, Dunbar once again gained an initial role and had his most productive NFL season, earning a PFF coverage score of 89.5 and an overall score of 87.6 for the season – the second best score for an NFL corner this season.

Reports emerged that Dunbar was looking for a new contract – something he systematically denied – but shortly after those rumors started, he was negotiated with the Seattle Seahawks. Despite being a starter, Dunbar was once again hit by an injury and was only able to play in six games in 2020 and ended the season as a reserve due to knee surgery.

If Dunbar is able to return to 2019 form and remain healthy in 2021, he will have the skills to start off the Lions list. If he fights or the injuries come up again, Lions still have solid options for young people outside, with Jeff Okudah and Amani Oruwariye.

This is yet another solid investment from Lions, betting on a previously successful player with a low handicap, assuming that the deal also follows the standards of previous deals in this off season.

Lions still need more bodies in their secondary, but with Okudah, Oruwariye, Dunbar, Ford and the recently hired Corn Elder, they are slowly building a unit with potential.
