Marvel’s Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series enhancements have been officially detailed by Crystal Dynamics, with next generation versions coming on March 18.
Although the team showed only a brief trailer and shared some light details about Marvel’s Avengers enhancements for the PS5 version (due to the marketing agreement), a newsletter from the official PlayAvengers website we received presents a full review of the PS5, Xbox X Series and Xbox Series S improvements that gamers can expect to arrive in the next month.

What makes this a little interesting is that there is no mention of any real-time ray tracing that the developers originally confirmed last year. There is also no mention of different lighting (only improved) and as for reflections, he will choose to use stochastic reflections of the screen space (SSR). For those who don’t understand the difference between SSR and ray stroke reflection, the SSR technique renders only what is visible on the player’s screen, compared to ray stroke reflection capable of rendering objects even off the screen from any angle . Basically, if you look at a reflection, say, a mirror with an object in the player’s view, it will reflect, but as soon as you leave the object’s field of view (moving camera), it will start to disappear. Here is a video demonstrating the two.
I will personally say that it is not a big problem for the Marvel Avengers, especially when considering the current performance on next generation consoles. The added load of real-time ray-tracing reflection proved to be quite demanding in many titles before Avengers, so the lack of the feature is probably the best considering all things. Furthermore, this does not mean that the SSR cannot be impressive in its own way, in fact it just depends on how Crystal Dynamic uses it.
Of course, this could be a printing error, so to make sure that we went ahead and contacted Square Enix and Crystal Dynamic for any possible comments. We will be sure to update if we have any answers.
