Destructoid celebrates The Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary

Zelda Week comes to an end, bitches

It is with great sadness that I must announce the end of Zelda Week here on Destructoid. In the past few days, we have put together a series of articles on The legend of Zelda in celebration of his 35th birthday. When Nintendo announced a Direct last week, I was sure there was going to be a big bang for the franchise, much like what happened with Super Mario. Unfortunately, all we got was confirmation of Skyward Sword HD.

Nintendo still has 364 days to hold some kind of official celebration for The legend of Zelda, but for today, Destructoid offers a summary of all the articles that our writers posted last week. Settle in because there are some excellent readings below.

Ocarina of Time

  • We asked the Destructoid team and community to name their favorite boss battle in the Zelda franchise. I didn’t know there was a great love for Stallord, but I’m 100% here for that.
  • Zoey Handley, the writer formally known as Adzuken, shares her thoughts on the importance of Zelda to move console games from their roots in arcades. In addition, the batteries in your home last forever.
  • Jonathan Holmes still loves Sword to Heaven because what else would you expect from a guy who loves to travel Smash. But seriously, Sword to Heaven it’s awesome, and I hope Nintendo will make some necessary changes to the Switch’s remastering.
  • As a counterpoint to Holmes’ article, the member of the TroyFullbuster community would like you to know that they still hate Sword to Heaven. I wish I could say that I don’t hate any game in this series, but Ghost Hourglass exists, so …
  • Music has been an important aspect of the series since its inception, and Zach Bennett details how Breath of the Wild continues the legacy of sound established in Ocarina of Time. If you don’t think Breath of the Wild has an incredible soundtrack, you should really listen to it a second time.
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link has been routinely called “the difficult Zelda game “, and this year, I managed to beat it for the first time. But not without a little help. I think now I should finally start hitting Majora mask. Or Oracle of Ages. Or Tri Force Heroes, but I think I need two more people for this.
  • It’s an old one, but a goodie. Community member Seymour explores gender in Breath of the Wild.
  • Chris Moyse explains why The legend of Zelda animated series was one of the worst things that ever came out of DIC. The only way for you to screw up a Zelda more cartoon is whether Nintendo gave the license to Seth MacFarlane.
  • Finally, the Destructoid community contributed their own stories about The legend of Zelda, looking at their best characters and moments and why this series is so important to so many people.
