The moon was finally added to Destiny 2 in 2019, but last year’s Beyond Light update made its booty obsolete. Bungie plans to fix the next season by relaunching some of its old equipment with a new infusion cap in the studio’s ongoing dance to try get the game going.
Bungie exposed the details around these changes, which will be introduced when season 13 starts on February 9, in this week’s blog post. Here is a quick summary of the changes, which also apply to the City of Dreams, added in 2018 Abandoned expansion:
Dreaming City Reverie Dawn and Moon Dreambane armor reissued.
4 weapons relaunched for Dreaming City with new Perk Pools.
- Awake Vigil, Insomnia, Vouchsafe and Short Stories.
- Dream City weapons that fall into the Shattered Throne dungeon can roll with perks that are not available from other reward sources.
4 weapons relaunched to the Moon with new Perk Pools.
- Premonição (Poço da Heresia only), Heretic, Blasphemous and Apostate.
- The weapons that fall into the Heresy Pit dungeon can roll with perks that are not available from other reward sources.
Beyond the light changed a lot in Destiny 2, not only getting rid of several major game locations and story campaigns, but also making large amounts of your loot obsolete. Vin a new sunsetting system, limits how powerful weapons and armor can become to channel players towards a smaller, more manageable and, from a Bungie perspective, more sustainable loot pool. After a bunch of complaints that the loot pool had become too small, Bungie has been trying to rebuild it since then, but in some ways it ‘s trying to do this seems to completely undermine the simplicity behind the first sunset.

On the one hand, the above changes are welcome, but on the other hand, I am not sure why it was not done from the beginning. This is effectively an old loot that was remixed and added back to the game after the original versions were all rendered useless by the new infusion cap. Players who have spent the past few months playing Abandoned and Shadowkeep for the first time, everyone got equipment for the sunset, although both expansions still cost money (instead of being included with Beyond the light)
The old equipment is also nearby for some reason. “To be more specific around real experience, the activities where reissues are acquired will be weighed in order to reward reissued equipment instead of protected equipment–although the exact weight and mechanisms may be different, ”writes assistant game director Joe Blackburn. “For example: In the City of Dreams, if you have already obtained a weapon with an infusion cap, it will not fall on you again.” Why is the infusion capped gear falling?
Bungie is also reworking Crucible and Gambit progressions. Instead of collecting tokens, players will classify themselves with one of the suppliers as they would any other, obtaining engrams by reaching each classification and extra manufacturing materials at specific intervals. Basically, Shaxx and Drifter will be offering their own mini-season passes. This seems to me to be a better system than the current one based on tokens, but partly only because Bungie has slowly made this system much less rewarding than it could be. Token delivery reward packages drop at significantly lower energy levels than your existing equipment, and also pull from an extremely narrow set of equipment that most players already own.
The new progressions will make the tokens obsolete, so players are encouraged to deliver them all before the start of the next season. In practice, this means fighting with a few menus in exchange for perhaps a piece of equipment between dozens and dozens that has an advantage or stat roll that is worth grabbing. Again, it seems to me that Bungie is solving another problem created by itself.
But wait, there’s more! Nerfs for certain PVP Stasis skills are also on the way. Added in Beyond Light, the Stasis subclass, which revolves around ice crystals that freeze and break in an extremely powerful and satisfying way ways, it has messed up the Crucible because of how powerful it can be in the competitive game. Update 3.0.2, which will air on January 19, wwill significantly impair the range and damage of the Shatter Dive and Whisper of Fissures abilities.
Big ones-term, Bungie says that ‘The goal is to make subclasses more balanced across the board and also to reign in skills to make the use of firearms a more effective and viable way to compete in PVP. “We are still in initial discussions, but we are looking to restore a better balance where the use of appropriate weapons is rewarding in these playlists,” wrote combat leader Tomonori Kinoshita.
Now it’s three weeks from the start of next season, and Bungie is ready to see more changes. in future blog posts. Hopefully, they show areas where Destiny 2 will continue to grow, instead of simply fixing your past mistakes.
