In the weekly Bungie blog post, the studio introduced two new features for Destiny 2 13th season, arriving early next month. Players will be able to earn more Umbral Engrams – a popular feature of the Season of Arrivals – and they will receive a new feature called “gilding”, which will allow dedicated players to win titles in the game again to make them even more special.
Destiny’s Arrival Season 2 introduced the Umbral Engram, a special item that has fallen from enemies and certain activities. Players could simply open their new Engrams to obtain items from the Season of Arrivals, but the number of withdrawals was very large – making it unlikely that they would get exactly what they wanted. So, instead of opening it immediately, players could take these Umbral Engrams to a station in the Tower called Prismatic Recasor. There, they could spend a little money to focus their Umbral Engrams, limiting the number of items they could become.
Instead of being a piece of armor or weapons, players can focus on their Umbral Engram to be just weapons. Or, after upgrading the system, they can focus their standard Shade Engram on one that can only drop a sword or bow. Essentially, it has become a way for dedicated players to remove some randomness in their search for the perfect weapon.
This system will return in the 13th season – the theme that Bungie has not yet released. Players can obtain Umbral Engrams from:
- Patrols
- Strikes
- Crucible
- Strategy
- Nightfall: the ordeal
- Public Events
- Blind Well
- Nightmare Hunts
- Exo Challenges
- Empire Hunts
- The new seasonal activity
- Enemy kills
While there are many ways to obtain Umbrella Engrams, Bungie promises that they will not be as plentiful as the Season of Arrivals. Starting in season 13, players can take these Umbral Engrams to a new Prismatic Caster – which requires a unique mission to teach players how to use it – to decode them into new weapons from that season. The stated goal here is to give players a chance to pick up new weapons, no matter what type of game they are playing.
But Umbral Engrams and the new Prismatic Caster will not only exist as part of season 13. Bungie plans to update the system throughout year 4, even adding new pages for each season, so that players can get new rewards whenever they want. There will also be a new coin called the Prismatic Lens, which will allow players to further focus their Umbrella Engrams.

In addition to the Umbral Engrams, players will finally have a chance to “gild” their Title Seals. Inside Destination 2: Abandoned, Bungie added labels and titles to the game. After players complete a set of objectives, they unlock a badge, which offers players a Title that is displayed under their username in the game. These titles are currently a unique reward – once you have them, you will have them. But starting next season, players can improve some Badges to really show off.
For the four seals that link in Destiny 2The main activities offered – Uninterrupted, Dredgen, Conqueror and Flawless – players can complete new triumphs each season, gilding that seal. Gilding a seal adds a new border around it in the UI, tracks how many times you have gilded the seal in previous seasons and changes the title color in the game.
On the blog, Bungie used Flawless as an example – the Trials of Osiris Title. In the future, players who finish in Flawless will be able to complete new or repeated Triumphs to brown Flawless, offering all the rewards mentioned above. Some of these triumphs are identical to the basic seal, while others ask that you receive a number of Saint-14 rewards before the end of the season. Players will have until the end of each season to brown their favorite title. At the end of the season, the progress of the gilding is redefined and the new color of the title returns to purple.
Both the new Umbral Engram system and the golden Title Seal will appear in season 13, which is due to air on February 9, according to the game clock.
