Destanni Henderson of Fort Myers is the co-player of the week for SEC women’s basketball in South Carolina

Destanni Henderson of South Carolina, a 2018 Fort Myers High graduate, was named SEC Co-Player of the Week along with Texas A&M’s N’dea Jones, the league announced Tuesday.

Henderson did a bit of everything over the first three games of the Gamecocks season, including a draw to the team’s honors with 17.7 points per game.

She was named MVP of the Women’s Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic after leading the Gamecocks in each of her two wins. Against No. 21/20 Gonzaga, she scored all 23 points of her career in the second half. Her free throws with 3:25 left in the game put Gamecocks at 1 (67-66) and she went on to hit four of the team’s six free-throw attempts in the final minute to seal the victory.

Against South Dakota, she started the offensive with seven points in the first quarter and added nine in the third as the Gamecocks moved away. She also tied for the team with nine rebounds in the championship. At the opening of the season against the College of Charleston, she got 11 points by giving five assists and making four steals in just 19 minutes on the court.
