JERSEY CITY, NJ – On the eve of perhaps the biggest game of the season, the Cowboys are already guaranteeing pieces for the next year and beyond.
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, whose name was listed as a potential candidate for the position of chief coach for the state of Boise, signed a multi-year contract extension to remain with the Cowboys.
“I am very excited to continue with the Dallas Cowboys as an offensive coordinator,” Moore said in a statement late on Saturday. “I’m not going to pursue the position of head coach at Boise State anymore. I love Boise State. I will always cheer for them and hope to be part of the program one day again.”
Moore, who won 50 games as a defender for the 2008-11 Boise State, is one of the greatest players in BSU history. And when the head coaching position recently became available, Moore was an instant candidate for the position.
His attack on the Cowboys has been successful since he became the coordinator two years ago. Despite several injuries this year, including a setback at the end of the season for Dak Prescott, the Cowboys took 12th place in the total attack this year, but took first place last year, their first season calling the game.
With Dak, Tyron Smith, La’el Collins and Blake Jarwin ready to return next year, along with Zack Martin, who also missed half the season, the Cowboys are expected to be a dynamic attack again, especially with Moore returning next year. .
Moore played six seasons as a defender in the NFL, starting in Detroit for three years and then three with the 2015-17 Cowboys. He joined the Cowboys coaching staff as a coach for defenders in 2018, before being promoted to offensive coordinator and football player last year.
“We are building something special here in Dallas,” said Moore. “I am grateful to the Jones family and Mike McCarthy for giving me the opportunity to coach these special players. I am excited to put everything together and finish the job.”
The Cowboys, however, have not yet ended this season. With 6-9, the Cowboys must win on Sunday against the Giants and then hope for a defeat by Washington for the Eagles. This would make Cowboys the only team with seven wins in the division and take them into the postseason.
