Depth chart projected too early for 2021, offense

The crazy and unpredictable college football season ended and the state of Ohio ended just before its ninth national championship in the program’s history, losing to Alabama in the national CFP championship game.

Now, we’re looking at the next season because – well, that’s what we do. College football is king on the banks of Olentangy, so it didn’t take long to turn the page, especially after what we all witnessed in Miami. We could use a little looking into the future instead of thinking about everything that went wrong just steps from South Beach.

On that note, we decided to look forward to a two-depth depth chart designed for a race for specials next year for Ryan Day and Ohio State, and we’re starting with the offensive side of the ball. We must remember that there are many guys who still need to make a decision about their future with the NFL, so we are doing our best in some of these situations. But don’t worry, we will update things periodically as we know more.

So, with more disclaimers than a credit card terms and conditions pamphlet, here’s what we believe the offensive depth chart could be for the state of Ohio in the fall of 2021.

The Quarterback Positon

USA TODAY Sports

Beginner

CJ Stroud

Class in 2021: Second year
Measurable: 6 feet, 3 inches, 205 pounds
Hometown: Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Backup

Jack Miller

Class in 2021: Second year
Measurable: 6 feet, 3 inches, 215 pounds
Hometown: Scottsdale, AZ

The situation

The competition for the reserve behind Justin Fields was as fierce as possible, but the five-star Stroud seemed to be the next man in line when Fields left the team. As things go into the next year, the two will continue to compete, and we can’t forget about another first-year five-star commit, Kyle McCord. At the moment, the call is for Stroud’s dual capacity and one year in the system to get approval.

Running back

Beginner

Master Teague

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 5 feet, 11 inches, 225 pounds
Hometown: Murfreesboro, TN

Backup

TreVeyon Henderson

Class in 2021: Freshman
Measurable: 5 feet, 11 inches, 195 pounds
Hometown: Hopewell, VA

The situation

It is an interesting situation in running back. Trey Sermon probably left with his rise at the end of the year. Master Teague would be the next man since he split roles in 2020, but don’t count the talented five-star TreVeyon Henderson. He may be the back runner from the future, but for now, the wave goes to Teague. Freshman Evan Pryor and brave Miyan Williams will also be part.

Beginner

Garrett Wilson

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 193 pounds
Hometown: Austin, TX

Backup

DeMario McCall

Class in 2021: Senior (sixth year)
Measurable: 5 feet, 9 inches, 195 pounds
Hometown: North Ridgeville, OH

The situation

If the coaching staff decides to keep Wilson in place, he is the unquestionable holder. However, there are many talents to choose from, so this group can move on to get the best options on the field. McCall did not participate in the festivities on the day of the third age, so we think he will be back for another race and may have more playing time in 2021.

Beginner

Julian Fleming

Class in 2021: Second year
Measurable: 6 feet, 2 inches, 200 pounds
Hometown: Catawissa, PA

Backup

Emeka Egbuka

Class in 2021: Freshman
Measurable: 6 feet, 1 inch, 190 pounds
Hometown: Steilacoom, WA

The situation

You have to think that Fleming is going to get the first chance at this point. He was reliable when Olave was away this year and comes with a big advantage. Another year of pre-season camp and his route race will be more polished and he could have a year of break. Egbuka may be too talented to keep off the field, and he will take it into account somewhere.

Beginner

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Class in 2021: Second year
Measurable: 6 feet, 196 pounds
Hometown: Rockwall, TX

Backup

Jameson Williams

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 2 inches, 188 pounds
Hometown: St. Louis, MO

The situation

This will be an interesting race. Williams had more snaps in 2020, but Njigba has shown that he has the talent and instincts that I think will make him rise and become a great ace in 2021. Both will still have a lot of time, and the coaching staff can shuffle things around the room. reception, but I don’t Smith-Njigba have to go on the pitch. Also, don’t count freshmen Emeka Egbuka, Jayden Ballard or Marvin Harrison Jr. here either.

Beginner

Jeremy Ruckert

Class in 2021: Senior
Measurable: 6 feet, 5 inches, 253 pounds
Hometown: Lindenhurst, NY

Backup

Jake Hausmann

Class in 2021: Second year
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 255 pounds
Hometown: Montvale, NJ

The situation

Jeremy Ruckert might as well declare himself for the NFL draft, but I think he will decide to go back another year to be the undisputed holder and become a big part of the OSU passing game. This will only improve your draft stock, which is already rising. Hausmann saw time this year and will have many photos in 2020 if everything goes as planned.

center

Beginner

Harry Miller

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 315 pounds
Hometown: Buford, GA

Backup

Luke Wypler

Class in 2021: Second year
Measurable: 6 feet, 3 inches, 295 pounds
Hometown: Montvale, NJ

The situation

There are rumors that Josh Myers may return for another year, and if that is true, he gets the initial nod here. However, at the end of the day, Myers’ shares are high in NFL circles and we feel he is taking it to the next level. That said, Miller is a real center that must slide and become the next major center at that location. Luke Wypler would be the next logical choice to provide depth as the next on the line.

Left Guard

Beginner

Matthew Jones

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 310 pounds
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY

Backup

Donovan Jackson

Class in 2021: Freshman
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 308 pounds
Hometown: Bellaire, TX

The situation

There is always a lot of scrambling on the offensive line, so that will likely change as things progress. At the moment, however, Matthew Jones has matched well when called this season, so we give him permission to take this place if Thayer Munford goes to the NFL as we think. Freshman stallion Donovan Jackson is going to take a look somewhere in the line, and this is a delicate situation, so I think he considers it.

Left

Beginner

Paris Johnson, Jr.

Class in 2021: Second year
Measurable: 6 feet, 6 inches, 305 pounds
Hometown: Cincinnati, OH

Backup

Max Wray

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 7 inches, 308 pounds
Hometown: Franklin, TN

The situation

Again, we are hearing rumors that Thayer Munford is struggling with his decision in the NFL. I think he’s finally going, so it’s time for Paris Johnson to slip into the place where he’s most naturally talented. It’s kind of empty behind this, but Wray has some experience and could fill it out here. More than likely, though, the coaches would change someone else on the line to fill that vacancy. Everything is in the air, really.

Right Guard

Beginner

Dawand Jones

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 8 inches, 360 pounds
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Backup

Enokk Vimahi

Class in 2021: RS Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 4 inches, 305 pounds
Hometown: Kahuku, HI

The situation

It’s time for the big, athletic Dawand Jones to take the field. It can be anywhere along the line, but if OSU is looking to get the top five starting players, he can slip into a guard place. Vimahi is still in development, but it is suitable for adding depth and will continue to improve.

Ohio State's Harry Miller, Nicholas Petit-Frere Names O Line Beginners USA TODAY Sports

Beginner

Nicholas Petit-Frere

Class in 2021: Junior
Measurable: 6 feet, 5 inches, 310 pounds
Hometown: Tampa, FL

Backup

Trey Leroux

Class in 2021: RS Sophomore
Measurable: 6 feet, 7 inches, 335 pounds
Hometown: Norwalk, OH

The situation

Petit-Frere owns this place and will really be about who will support it. After all the shuffling happens, I believe that Leroux will enter the mix. However, again, it will be a fluid situation.
