DENVER (CBS4) – The crews installed a new public toilet in downtown Denver on Wednesday. The permanent facility is on the edge of Champa Street, near 16th Street Mall, in what used to be a parking lot.

It has two bays, including one compatible with ADA standards, non-touch entries, hand sanitizer stations and space to wait in line.

The project started with a pilot program five years ago with the aim of meeting the need for public restrooms in the city center.

“I am proud to have worked with city agencies to launch the creative mobile bathroom program that has expanded access to sanitation for those who are away from home or live without one in downtown Denver,” said Denver City Councilor Robin Kniech .

In addition to being attended to by someone, there will also be security cameras.
