Demonstrate the latest RPG from the creators of ‘Octopath Traveler’ for free

Fans of the striking retro looks of Square Enix’s JRPG Octopath traveler will be treated as a kind of continuation that goes to the Nintendo Switch in 2022. The new game, which goes by the provisional title of Project Triangle Strategy, is built from the same 2D and 3D mold as its predecessor. A demo is now available on Switch eShop and you can check out these visuals in the ad trailer below.

This time, the focus is on tactical RPG: the battle system sees players moving along a grid, taking turns to attack. Additional game mechanics allow you to position your units higher, offering the advantage of greater range. You can also flank enemies on both sides and attack from behind using powerful accompanying attacks. Elemental chain reactions, which range from fire and ice to lightning, can be used to alter the environment and defeat enemies. It must look familiar to fans of old school tactical games or anyone who has tried Final Fantasy Tactics.

The story, however, revolves around a battle between three nations that compete to take control of the diminishing resources of salt and iron. As with Octopath, it seems that you will be taking control of a group of characters, only this time there is something called Scales of Conviction (divided between Utility, Morality and Freedom), that each individual can influence. Consequently, the “TRIANGLE” in capital letters of the title. If you’re not sure what it all means, just get started and take a look at the demo.
