“The pandemic is driving families more and more into poverty and it is devastating. We are making the Child Tax Credit more generous, more accessible and, by paying it monthly, that money will make a difference on a roof over someone’s head or food on the table, “Neal said in a statement provided to CNN.
The legislation would provide $ 3,600 per child under the age of six and $ 3,000 per child aged six to 17 for a single year. The full benefit is available for single parents who earn up to $ 75,000 per year and for couples who earn up to $ 150,000. Payments would be eliminated after these limits.
Families can receive monthly Child Tax Credit payments.
If this specific legislation is passed by Congress, payments will begin in July for a year.
Representatives Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, Suzan DelBene of Washington and Ritchie Torres of New York are also due to present on Monday autonomous legislation that will continue the benefit permanently.
