Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips breaks up with Pelosi and opposes the turnaround in the Iowa Congress dispute

A Minnesota Democrat broke with his party on Monday by opposing the effort to overturn Congresswoman Marianette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa’s election, saying it would be “painful” for the country.

Deputy Dean Phillips, D-Minn., Asked the Democratic leadership to abandon its quest to overturn the Miller-Meeks state election to put its opponent Rita Hart in Congress.

Phillips – who is on the House Ethics Committee – said that while the six-vote electoral defeat was “painful” for Democrats, overturning the election would be distressing for the United States.

“Losing an election in the House by six votes is painful for Democrats,” wrote Phillips on Twitter. “But taking him down in the Chamber would be even more painful for America.”

“Just because the majority can, does not mean that the majority should,” added Phillips.

Political confirmed that the Democratic leadership in the House gave the go-ahead to chase the Miller-Meeks spot on Monday.

National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokesman Mike Berg told Fox News that the NRCC is happy to see Phillips break with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., And his “toxic attempt” to take the Iowa chair.

“We are happy that Congressman Phillips accepted our advice and spoke out against Nancy Pelosi’s toxic attempt to overthrow a state-certified election,” said Berg. “Mr Phillips’ vulnerable colleagues must follow his example.”

Democrats in Congress have been pushing to reverse the Miller-Meeks victory to represent Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.

Miller-Meeks spoke out against the Democratic effort to take his seat in the House in a “Special Report” interview earlier this month, defending his victory with a state certificate and saying that people across America should be “outraged” at the attempt to overthrow it.

“Everyone across the country should be outraged by this,” said Miller-Meeks. “I was certainly encouraged by those people across the country who came to me and said that they are contacting their representatives to inform them of their discontent.”
