“You don’t need a six-month investigation to find out what happened,” Raskin said of the January 6 violence, adding, “There was a murder party hunting for Nancy Pelosi.”

“They built a gallows outside the United States Capitol,” said Raskin. “This was an attack on our country.”

Raskin added that Republicans needed to show that there would be consequences for rioters seeking to commit violence against members of Congress, telling Tapper that the response to the attack “cannot be at the level of normal party pressure to pull.”

Trump, Raskin added, was hosting a “back door uprising party” at the White House for hours while lawmakers hid in secure areas during the attack.

The House voted last week to impeach Trump, making him the first president to face two charges. He now awaits a second trial in the Senate, as he prepares to step down on Wednesday morning.
