Demi Lovato opened up about her previous battle with bulimia and how she is progressing in her recovery in an Instagram post on Thursday.
“I am very grateful to be able to say honestly for the first time in my life – my nutritionist looked at me and said, ‘This is what recovery from eating disorder looks like,'” said the 28-year-old singer.
The Anyone artist opened up about her previous misconceptions about the sensitive subject, saying that she “used to genuinely believe that recovery from an eating disorder was not real” and “that everyone was secretly pretending or falling back behind closed doors”

She continued: ‘”Certainly she vomits here and there”, “she CANNOT accept her cellulite” … those [were] just a few of the things I used to say to myself as I grew up. ‘
Lovato emphasized to her nearly 95 million followers that she is living proof that people can return from personal battles with eating disorders, as she did.
‘Also let this be a reminder for anyone who doesn’t think it’s possible: IT IS TRULY … YOU CAN DO IT. I BELIEVE IN YOU, ‘said Lovato. ‘This year has been difficult … be kind to yourself if you slip up and remember to get back on track because you are WORTH THE MIRACLE OF RECOVERY … I LOVE YOU.’

“In honor of my gratitude for the place I am in today, this was a small photo I took alone in quarantine this summer, when I wanted to celebrate my stretch marks instead of being ashamed of them,” she said. ‘I started using real glitter paint on my stretch marks to celebrate my body and all its features (whether society considers them good OR bad).’
