Demi Lovato talks about ‘painful journey’ after 2018 overdose: ‘I’m so proud of the person I am today’

Demi Lovato continues to open up about her near-fatal 2018 overdose.

The 28-year-old singer recently spoke to People magazine, revealing that “it wouldn’t change anything” about how events occurred after the overdose.

“Everything had to happen for me to learn the lessons I learned,” the multi-hyphenate told a panel of the Television Critics Association. “It was a painful journey, and I look back and sometimes I feel sad when I think of the pain I had to endure to get over what I went through, but I don’t regret anything.”

Lovato noted that she is “proud” of who she is today and expressed enthusiasm for people to watch her four-part documentary on YouTube, “Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil”.

“I am very proud of the person I am today,” continued Lovato. “I am very proud that people see this in this documentary and I couldn’t be more grateful to have someone at my side.”

Lovato’s documentary trailer debuted on Wednesday. In the trailer, she explained that she had “five to 10 minutes” to live after suffering a heart attack and three strokes after her overdose.

With his documentary series set to open on March 23, Lovato hopes the series will “set the record” about his life and struggles.

“I wanted to reveal everything to my fans and say that I am and this is where I am today and this is the journey that brought me here, and if it helps you, I hope so, because that was my purpose in publicizing it,” she continued in his interview with People.

Lovato opened up even more about her overdose and its long-lasting effects during the YouTube TCA panel on Wednesday and revealed that she also had brain damage.

“I got brain damage and I still deal with the effects of it today,” shared Lovato. “I don’t drive a car because I have blind spots in my vision.”

Lovato said he also had trouble reading because his vision was very blurred. She said it took about two months to “read a book”.
