Demi Lovato says she was sexually abused by her drug dealer the night she overdosed

Demi Lovato is speaking like never before.

The 28-year-old singer is the subject of a new documentary series, “Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil”, which debuted on Tuesday at SXSW. In the document, the star claims that on the night of her near-fatal overdose in 2018, her drug dealer assaulted her sexually.

“I don’t just overdose. I was taken advantage of ”, she says at docuseries.

According to star friend Sirah Mitchell, Lovato received heroin “mixed with fentanyl” that July night, and the drug dealer “ended up getting her very high and leaving her to die”.

The “Anyone” singer says that when she woke up in a hospital, doctors asked if she had had consensual sex.

“I had a flash of him on top of me. I saw that flash and said ‘Yes’,” said the pop star. “It was only a month after the overdose that I realized, ‘You weren’t in any frame of mind to make a consensual decision.'”

Unfortunately, the alleged encounter with the drug dealer was not Lovato’s first non-consensual sexual incident, says the star.

“When I was a teenager, I was in a very similar situation,” she reveals on docuseries. “I lost my virginity in a rape.”

The singer says that she and the alleged abuser were “dating” at the time, but that she made it clear that she was not “ready” to have sex.

“I was part of that Disney gang that said publicly that it was waiting for the wedding. I didn’t have the first romantic time ”, she says. “It wasn’t that for me – it sucked. So I had to see this person all the time, so I stopped eating and faced it in other ways.”

In addition, the “Camp Rock” star says he revealed what happened to her to adults, but the alleged attacker “never had a problem with that”.

About a month after the incident, Lovato says, she called the alleged attacker “and tried to fix things by being in control”, but it just made her “feel worse”.

“Both times were textbook trauma scenarios, and I really fought for years, which is why I had a hard time accepting the fact that it was a rape when it happened,” says Lovato.
