Demi Lovato says she “essentially had to die to wake up” after the 2018 overdose: “Thank you for sitting here”

Demi Lovato is grateful to be alive after her near-fatal 2018 overdose.

The 28-year-old former Disney star shared more details about the incident in an interview for “CBS Sunday Morning”.

“For the first time in my life, I essentially had to die to wake up,” Lovato frankly revealed in the interview, which is due to open on March 21.

The singer explained that she had only “five to 10 minutes” left to live, if no one came to rescue her.

“The doctors told me that I had five to ten minutes,” Lovato said. “If no one had found me, I wouldn’t be here.”

“I am grateful to be sitting here,” she reflected emotionally after recalling the events of the overdose.

Lovato’s meeting with Tracy Smith on CBS comes just five years after his last interview with the journalist. In the new interview, Smith noted that she and Lovato had a “similar conversation in 2016” and asked the singer bluntly: “What happened?”

“I was probably 24 when we did the interview. So, we are doing this interview, I am recovering from a lot of things and I have been sober for many years – but I am still miserable, ”said Lovato.

Since the overdose, Lovato has received monthly injections of a drug designed to counteract the effects of opioids in an effort to contain the addiction.

The singer’s treatment of “Anyone” is one of the many revelations she makes in her YouTube documentary series “Dancing With the Devil”, which shows her journey frankly. It opens on March 23.
