Demi Lovato survived and now she is telling the story. Dancing with the Devil, his next documentary series on YouTube, explores his near-fatal heroin overdose in 2018, and the trailer no longer spares details. “I had three strokes, I had a heart attack, my doctors said I had another five to ten minutes,” says Lovato in the trailer, describing the incident. It is not the first time that Lovato investigates his personal life on camera; From 2017 Simply complicated plunged into the singer’s struggles against addiction. The new four-part series features interviews with friends and family, some of whom seem shocked to be asked to speak openly about the overdose, and Elton John and Christina Aguilera appear to speak about the toll of fame. But the documentary does not focus exclusively on Lovato’s overdose. A clip shows her talking about her engagement since breaking up with actor Max Ehrich. “I’ve had a lot of lives, like my cat – you know, I’m in my ninth life,” Lovato says in the trailer. “I’m ready to go back to doing what I love, which is making music.” Fittingly, the trailer includes an excerpt from Lovato’s new song, “Dancing With the Devil”. The series debuts on YouTube Originals on March 23.
