Delco residents 65 and above now included in vaccination phase 1B

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA – As progress is made in vaccinating the Phase 1A group in Delaware County, employees have defined who will be included in the next phase. However, it is not clear when vaccinations for the next phase will begin.

On Friday, officials detailed who will be included in the next phase, 1B, including a new population.

Below are those who will receive the vaccine priority in Phase 1B:

  • childcare team
  • correction team
  • county and municipal administration officials
  • educators and educational staff
  • firemen
  • food and agriculture team
  • grocery team
  • law enforcement
  • manufacturing team
  • transit team
  • US Postal Service Team

New to Phase 1B are residents aged 65 and over.

Phase 1B includes people who live or work in Delaware County.

“Although we do not have a definite time to move to Phase 1B, we are looking forward to moving to that phase as soon as we confirm that Phase 1A is underway and we are not limited in our supply of vaccines,” officials said on Friday. “Phase 1B groups are encouraged to educate their workforce about the importance of receiving the vaccine.”

Residents and organizations are encouraged to complete the Phase 1B Vaccine Interest Survey to indicate interest in receiving the vaccine. The information sent will be shared with the Vaccination Team, who will send communication on registration for vaccination appointments as the vaccine and schedules become available.

The county is administering vaccines to people who live or work in Delaware County and are in the Phase 1A priority group. This group includes health workers, EMS workers, residents and employees of long-term care institutions and coroners and funeral personnel.

Due to the limited supply of the vaccine, health professionals, EMS staff, long-term care facilities and the coroner and funeral staff are the priority for the distribution of vaccination.

On January 15, 13,336 vaccines were administered in the county, which is a similar rate compared to neighboring counties.

Non-affiliated health providers should also check local health systems for information about
the vaccine becoming available in these locations as vacancies arise in your health care system.

Authorities are preparing to open the Delaware County Wellness Center later this month in Yeadon, which will serve as a storage and vaccination site. Two other sites are being seen as vaccination sites.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are the only vaccines administered in the United States, and both vaccines require two doses for full effectiveness. A second injection is given three weeks after the first injection to provide the greatest possible protection.
