Defensive line coach Gamecocks explains the recruitment philosophy

South Carolina defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey he wasted no time to start working on the recruitment trail.

“Just before that, I had the opportunity to talk to three recruits from 2022. … One of the questions I asked them: Do you love football,” said Lindsey, during her introductory press conference on Tuesday.

“Guys who love the game they want to develop and who play hard, are in it for the right reasons. They are good teammates. “

Several 2022 strikers heard from Lindsey on Tuesday. One confirmed to TheBigSpur that he spoke to Lindsey after his press conference.

“The three I spoke to were a great response,” said Lindsey. “Obviously, I started working today. I just joined yesterday. Anxious to promote and develop these relationships with potential recruits.

“This is a great institution, a university to sell. World-class facilities, great fan base, so I think we have a lot to offer here in South Carolina. ”

Lindsey said there are a handful of factors that he should consider when evaluating potential customers. It starts with some tangible qualities, but intangibles are measured.

“Obviously, our great recruiting team here has a size-speed ratio for each position, so obviously you want guys that match the size-speed ratio for your position,” he said, “So you want guys who love football.”

The Cheraw native is excited about the opportunity to recruit players for the state he was born in.

“It’s a great sale for us, just seeing the parts of the campus, driving and seeing the stadium, all of that is impressive,” said Lindsey. “I think that when we have the opportunity to take children to our institution and take children to our campus and they see what we have to offer, I think it is obvious.”
