December 2020 patch messes up the corners of the Pixel 3a screen

For those of you with Pixel 3a, it looks like the December 2020 update may have done some weird things to the corners of your screen / display.

We recently saw an increase in camera complaints on selected Google Pixel camera hardware, but more investigations Android Police found that complaints are increasing over a peculiarity of the strange screen introduced in Pixel 3a after the December 2020 security patch – and subsequent fall in Pixel features.

Let’s first say that, although this appears to be a very small problem that you may not have even noticed, it is noticeable in certain angles. Basically, since the December 2020 update crashed, reports have grown that the software masking of the corners of the Pixel 3a screen has been disabled. This changes the normally smooth curves at the corners to be angular or sharp when the device is held at certain angles.

It is very, very small, but at the same time difficult to “not see” after noticing the small square edges at the corners of the Pixel 3a screen. There is no need to panic, as this is definitely a software related issue that is likely to be fixed in a future update.

There are many complaints in the Pixel Phone Help Forums and in the subreddit / r / GooglePixel of people who are experiencing this strange and small screen problem. Many are complaining that the corners of the screen are only a pixel or two apart, which makes it a little irritating when you notice the problem – that is, if you are affected. The user / u / nikkomercado shared a comparison that shows the problem quite clearly:

Neither the January or February 2021 patches solved the problem for Pixel 3a owners, but if Google is aware of this small problem in the corner of the screen, we are sure it will be resolved. It is important to note that this problem does not affect any of the operational capabilities of your device, nor does it impair performance. It turns out that it looks very strange. No other Pixel device appears to have the same problems, and it is unclear whether the Pixel 3a XL has been affected.

Have you seen problems with the screen corners of the Pixel 3a or 3a XL? If so, let us know in the comments section below. We have also contacted Google to comment on this complaint and will update you if we receive an official response.
