Death of woman in northeastern Kansas under investigation after obituary claims she died after taking the COVID-19 vaccine

(KAIR) – An investigation is underway regarding the death of an Effingham woman whose obituary cited the COVID-19 vaccination as the cause of death.

Jeanie Evans died on Wednesday, with the obituary of the funeral home Becker-Dyer-Stanton de Atchison saying that Evans died unexpectedly at the age of 68 at Topeka’s Stormont-Vail Hospital.

On Thursday, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued a statement confirming the death, saying the agency learned of the death of a 68-year-old Atchison County resident who had been vaccinated in Jefferson County. THE
statement says that “according to the Department of Local Health, the appropriate CDC guidelines have been followed.”

The statement explains that during the waiting period after receiving the vaccine, “the individual started to present anaphylaxis and medical treatment was provided”, before transportation to hospital treatment. Adding that “death will be fully investigated according to the standard protocol”, the statement says that “until the investigation is completed, it is premature to assign a specific cause of death”.

The Centers for Disease Control website offers information related to possible serious allergic reactions, or anaphylaxis, and non-severe allergic reactions, to those who receive the vaccine. The CDC also “became aware of reports that some people had itchy, swollen or painful skin rashes where they received the injection.”

Among the published information is that relating to the safeguards in force for vaccine recipients, including on-site monitoring, as cited in the KDHE statement. According to the statement, “the Local Health Department recorded death in the Vaccine Adverse Event Notification System, a national vaccine safety surveillance program, as required“ whenever a death or any adverse event occurs after vaccination ”.

Evans, cited in his obituary as a member of Effingham City Council, will be remembered during a memorial service at 2 am on Monday afternoon at the funeral home.

Among its survivors are three sons and two daughters.
