Deadpool 3 confirmed for the MCU; Kevin Feige talks about R-rating and shooting details

Many questions came up when Disney bought 20th Century Fox, but one big question that Marvel fans had was about the future of Dead Pool franchise. Just a few years ago, the low-budget, underage-rated superhero movie paid off a lot for Fox, making it its most valuable superhero property. A streak was immediately given to the green, but the victory lap was short-lived, as Disney appeared and Fox’s future Dead Pool plans were put on hold.

Clearly, Disney would not throw away a franchise and character as valuable as Deadpool, but the questions remained about how the minors-rated property would fit into the exclusively PG-13 box in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, it seems, very well.

Steve Weintraub of Collider recently spoke with the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige in anticipation of Marvel’s first Disney + series WandaVision, and during the conversation Feig gave a promising update on Deadpool 3, revealed when filming will begin and, most importantly, confirmed the sequence go be part of the MCU.

That’s right. When Deadpool 3 happen, it will not be like a property tangentially related to some jokes about the MCU. Ryan Reynolds‘The out-of-control mercenary is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and he will maintain his rating R Feige said sisters Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux are working hard on the script with Reynolds overseeing, but Deadpool 3 filming will not begin until 2022, at least:

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script now, and Ryan is overseeing a script now … It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy and very successful actor. We have a number of things that we have announced that we need to do now, but it is exciting for this to have started. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just incredible to see him bring that character to life. ”

This is an exciting update. Obviously, Feige and Co. have their hands full of production, as they are in the middle of filming Thor 4 and Spider-Man 3, and this year will also start shooting Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2and Captain Marvel 2. So Deadpool 3 it won’t be on the dance card until 2022, which means that the film probably won’t hit theaters until 2023, at the very least.

Chris Hemsworth as Thor

But that doesn’t mean that we won’t see Deadpool before that. Given the character’s meta-textual nature and Marvel’s talent for cameos, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the character sometime this year or the next in one of Marvel’s many movies and TV shows.

Look for a lot more in our chat with Feige and the WandaVision released on Collider soon.
